A renaissance manager is someone who has profound, diverse expertise and channels those abilities for purpose, problem solving and unifying others. Although such a manager is given the common maxim ‘’Jack-Of-All-Trades, master of none’’ a renaissance leader is driven by causes beyond themselves.

The world with a population close to 7billion is on the verge of exceeding its elastic limit to cater for the needs of humanity. Although poverty, hunger, climate change are the major focus of developmental goals in recent times, little progress is recorded because of those at the helm of affairs.

The need to end poverty in all its form everywhere is achievable. Financial gurus have been tasked with the duty of crushing this menace, but all their efforts are like rain drops trying to breakdown a rock. The jigsaw that will unscramble this puzzle will be the recruitment of professionals with diverse expertise that can think through to come up with solutions that will have long-term positive effect without collapse.

Ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages is right for all. Huge sum of money is spent yearly in Africa and Asia to restore the health of her citizens. Many wonder why Aids, polio and malaria continues to kill people daily despite the huge investment. It is because squared pegged managers occupy the round decision making roles in the health sector. People with a broad mind-set should be integrated into sensitive decision-making roles in the health sector before any meaningful progress will be made.

To ensure that there is no hunger, achieve food security, improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture is a very tasking duty, which should not to be left in the hands of agriculturist alone. Farmers toil day and night but many a person still go to bed hungry. Despite excess food production, more than 40% wastes before getting to the consumers. To address this issue, managers with knowledge of agriculture, engineering and food technology should come up with policies that will reduce food loss.

The need to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all is a right for every child. A progressive society is known by how much education her citizens are getting. Managers of education have continued to lay emphasis on the obsolete system of “garbage in garbage out”. This is simply because of the narrow mindedness of these players. To achieve an educated world, educationist with broad knowledge base alone be allowed to design the education curriculum.

The society’s perception about gender equality and empowering all women and girls have continued to generate controversy daily. Cases of rape, female genital circumcision and child molestation are stories that grace the pages of media headlines daily. Those that were supposed to curb this ugly trend facing the female folk have turned deaf ears because majority are not knowledgeable enough to tackle the issue. It is to this end that managers with renaissance abilities ought to be identified and tasked with the charge of ensuring gender equality.

To need to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all have received commendable result in Europe and America but the reverse is the case in Africa. Many a source of affordable energy continue to be untapped because of the managers at the helm of affairs. A radical change in the leadership structure of the energy sector will make this goal realization possible.

The need to promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all is the bane of many nations. More than 50% of those employed are not productive. This is because employers have placed emphasis on monotony at work instead of progressive work. Only a robust thinking manager can provide an environment where her workers can learn new skills while on a job.

The need to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation is the ninth goal that should to be addressed. Industrialization and infrastructural projects that were executed by engineers with specialty have not been sustainable over the years. Collapse of building and pollution of our cities would be curbed when engineers with knowledge from diverse fields are left to promote this goals realization.

Reducing inequality within and among countries is necessary. Many a community have suffered from policies of narrow-minded managers who promote inequality among their followers. Nature has made everyone equal, and so there is an urgent need for managers with reconnaissance spirit to be allowed to direct the affairs of nations and communities around the world.

Making cities and human settlement inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable is not a small deal that should be left in the hands of region planners. Inclusion of human resources with diversity of skills can help nations to achieve these goals with little resources.

To ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns, individuals with vast experience should be at the helm of decision-making process. Producers alone are bound to make policies that will favour them to detriment of consumers and so shouldn’t be left to make decisions alone.

The need to conserve and sustainably use oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development cannot be over emphasized. Water is a necessity for living but our water bodies is polluted with harmful substances that pose threats to the aquatic habitat. Educating nations on how best to conserve this resource is the only way forward.

The need to protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forest, combat diversification, reverse land degradation and biodervisty loss is for the benefit of the unborn generations. Where do we go to if the earth is destroyed today? Only a manager with diversified thinking approach will be able to preserve these beautiful gifts of nature for continuity of life on earth.

Promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institution at all levels cannot be relegated to the background. The world has suffered from many avertable wars that have left nations destitute. Conflict is inevitable but there is need for people with a renaissance mind-set to serve as peace brokers.

To strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development is no small deal. It needs the collective effort of experts from different fields who can think through and proffer ground-breaking solutions. Only through a renaissance manager can the sustainable development goals be effectively implemented.
