The Grand Palace: This is a very famous landmark and your visit to Bangkok will not be complete without going here. Built in 1782, it was the home of the Kings and the Royal court. However, the Thai Kings stopped living in the palace in the 1990’s but all ceremonies are still performed here. It also has been the seat of administrative government for 150 years. Bangkok’s floating market: In Bangkok, there are many floating markets; the Damnoen Saduak, Bang Khu Wiang, Taling Chan and the Tha Kha floating market. These markets cater more to tourists than locals; the boats are still piled up high with fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, and food that are cooked on the boat.

The city is also known as the "Venice of the East". Despite the fact that the canals have been filled to make way for roads and prevent the spread of cholera, you will still find that some of these canals or khlongs are no longer used as avenues for trade. You can still take a ride on these boats for a few bahts, to see old wooden houses that have been laden with old bridges and colorful flowers.
