Casal de São Simão is a beautiful old-world stone village that is surrounded by tall mountain cliffs with amazing views. This welcoming village in the interior of Portugal, about 30 minutes north Tomar, is home to some of the nicest people in all of Portugal. Some of the residents of the village have been here for more than 9 decades. When you arrive here, you’ll instantly feel at home! You really can’t find that in other areas of the world and it’s nice to know that a place like this still exists.

Here you can walk the stone streets lined with builds that were constructed 100’s of years ago. This charming village has been well maintained and the local government has spent both time and money protecting the area’s heritage. The houses in the area are made of stone each having its own unique characteristic.

A recent addition to Casal de São Simão is a multi-complex building that serves as a quaint gift shop filled with locally made crafts and other trinkets. Also, you can learn about the villages rich history and meet some of the area’s most interesting people. Above the building, there is a restaurant with an open-area café where you can dine while visiting this breathtaking area of Portugal.

While you are here, walk down the mountainside woodland and take a dip in the chilly waters of Fragas de São Simão; a tranquil and serene area embraced by crags, mountains streams, and waterfalls.
