This Too, We Shall Overcome

Few months ago,

In the province of Wuhan,

A doctor hung his stethoscope around his neck,

As he stepped out for work,

He came in through the back door,

As he glanced at his patients in their hundreds,

Tick tuck ticked the clock,

As he attended to his ninety-ninth patient for the day,

Next patient please!

Came a woman ravaged by an illness,

With tears bathing his eye balls,

And his strength waning away,

He strengthened himself for the assignment,

After the clinical diagnosis,

The results looked strange,

This must be a new strain of virus,

As he alerted his fellow Doctors,

Authorities misunderstood his message and silenced him,

Like a wounded lion in a market square,

Descended the illness on the inhabitants of China,

With flights schedule ungrounded,

Asia, America, Europe, Australia, and Africa were all affected,

The name of the illness is covid19,

While the name of the Doctor is Li Wenliang,

The same virus that the Doctor raised alarm about,

Killed him and has ravaged every sector of human endeavour,

An agreement between the Chinese authority and the Doctor would have saved the world from this mess,

Unfortunately, the Chinese authority couldn’t think through the idea,

Thousands have been infected,

Thousands have died,

Nevertheless, many have recovered,

Bless the Lord oh my soul and all that is within me,

Bless his holy name,

Bless the Lord, Oh my soul,

And forget not all his benefit,

Who forgiveth all thine iniquities;

Who healeth all thy diseases, Psalm 103:1-3

Many kudos to our medical team,

Who are at the forefront of this battle,

Though isolated, our voices are open,

To hasten our victory,

Always wash your hands with alcohol-based sanitizers,

Avoid social gatherings and places with high risk,

Maintain a good personal hygiene,

Avoid touching the eyes, mouth and nose with dirty hands,

Wear facemask when coughing or sneezing,

Avail yourself for test if you notice symptoms like cough, catarrh, headache, fever, breathing difficulty, and loss of taste and smell,

Together we will overcome,

As we remain indoors and look up to God,

Before drawing the curtain,

I wish to remind you of past battles we won together,

Our grandparents fought plagues from century to century,

We conquered World War 1 and 2 together,

We are currently defeating climate change, hunger and poverty,

On sustainable development goals we anchor,

As we play our part and leave the rest for God,

I can hear the sounds of victory,

Stay indoor to be safe

This Covid-19 too, we shall overcome.
